New, Creative Coffee (and Tea!) Drinks For Summer

One of the beautiful things about coffee is its ornateness and depth. At La Terza, we are fortunate to have not only extremely talented team members but folks who love to experiment.  At our Roasterie, there is always a drive to get creative and explore new drinks. We strive to find new and interesting things and to explore different avenues that come up in the coffee world. La Terza’s hope is to be as innovative as possible and to uphold the cultural standards of coffee today.

That being said, our team looks to all sources for inspiration – be it a coffee expo, or even Instagram. For us, there is no bad source of inspiration as long as we are open minded and willing to make adjustments. On most occasions, when we find an idea, it’s not going to be exactly the same as the one that we will ultimately produce for customers. It will be tweaked, edited, and reworked by our master roasters in order to optimize the best aspects of the drink.

So, here are three fun drink options we think that you should try this Summer. Although they are less common, we find them to be fabulous.

Cortadito – We first introduced the cortadito to our menu board last summer and we couldn’t have gotten a more positive response. The cortadito consists of half espresso and half frothed milk. The twist on the drink is that we put one gram of raw sugar in between the espresso ground. With this process, the sugar melts down and gives the espresso a hint of sweetness that is reminiscent of molasses or caramel. The combination of this flavor with textured milk gives the cortadito a depth which can be described as buttery in the mouth, chocolatey in the background, and creamy. One new layer we’ve added this year is infusing the drink with different kinds of flavors. We are currently using a bourbon vanilla sugar to take this drink to a whole new level!

Ameri-latteThis drink is like an Americano because it combines a shot of espresso with water; however, it has a creamy and foamy texture like a latte or cappuccino. It’s best for folks who are looking for an Americano with a twist, or for someone who wants a latte style drink but is watching calorie intake or would like a great vegan/dairy-free option.  We just found this drink on Instagram, so we are looking forward to improving it and then introducing it to the public this Summer.

Sparkling Iced Tea – We have been playing around with using different tea concentrates, which allows us to use our espresso machine to create tea cocktails. One of the exciting new things we are exploring is pairing herbal teas with carbonated water. The Alpenglow Red Tea and the Pink Rose Lemonade Tea make for a naturally sweet, crisp, and refreshing summer drink. The best thing about this drink is that is doesn’t have all the sugar or calories, so you won’t feel guilty drinking endless amounts!
